Homeless Man Naked In Public
A San Francisco nonprofit leader was attacked Friday morning with a wooden plank and taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police say. One suspect, who is homeless, is in custody. Community leaders in the area say homelessness has spread to their neighborhood and is leading to an uptick in crime. The center's executive director James Spingola was the victim of the attack and recalled how he had been viciously beaten with a wooden plank after asking two men to leave the area. Spingola told KTVU that he saw two homeless men, one half naked, in the backyard of the community center. He said he asked them to leave before the children at the center saw them.

Port Hardy RCMP arrest man after indecent acts | CTV News
Providing jobs and other aid to Los Angeles County residents soon after they land in the streets could help prevent 2, to 5, people a year from falling into persistent homelessness, according to a new study from a liberal think tank. The researchers combined 26 data sources — including county healthcare and social services records, the U. Census and homeless counts and demographic surveys — to sketch what experts called a novel portrait of people at risk of falling into chronic homelessness, as well as recommendations of how to help them. For several years running, Los Angeles has topped the nation in chronically homeless people, with 16, in the count, the most recent available.

As Ventura seethes over fatal stabbing, police acknowledge mistake in handling of homeless man
Port Hardy RCMP say a man was arrested following multiple indecent acts, including an incident that involved a child. The first incident occurred on June 2, when police received a report of a highly intoxicated man exposing himself to people at a business in the block of Granville Street. A child was reportedly present during this incident, police say, and Mounties are hoping to speak with the mother of the child. The man was thrown out of the business by the time police arrived, and he was arrested at the scene.

Officers in the area were busy, so police decided to monitor the man on a surveillance camera, ultimately deciding he was not a threat. Hours later, police said, the man entered a nearby steakhouse and plunged a knife into the neck of Anthony Mele Jr. The slaying also highlights the difficulty police face in interacting with people who are homeless or mentally ill. In some cities, including Los Angeles, law enforcement has been accused of over-policing the homeless community, leading to encounters that sometimes turn deadly.
