Lesbian music festivals

This past weekend I attended my 6th Dinah Shore weekend with Bumble. But I narrowed it down to the biggest and best. Every year they have A-list celebrities attending and performing. Last year Lady Gaga was seen in the crowd along with dozens of celesbian YouTubers.

These woman-focused spaces are a chance to step to the side of male-dominated spaces, i. The visions that helped shape the early fests — visions tied in most cases to lesbian separatism — were informed by a desire to connect hearts, minds, and bodies, and at least for a short time to test out forms of gathering, laboring, and organizing created by and for women. Lesbian culture has for decades been characterized by creating space specifically for lesbians where none existed because not only was the larger culture entirely male-dominated, deeply misogynist and oppressive toward women, so too were most LGB organizations and spaces. Similarly, feminist organizations, particularly through the ss, actively sought to keep lesbians and the issues facing lesbians out of their spaces. Not to mention all the ways these cultures enact things like racism and cis-sexism.

Women-only and women-centered space is a place to revel in the diversity, the depth and breadth, of the female experience. We heal, grow, evolve in such spaces, which is I guess why men and patriarchal loyalists find them so threatening. The rest of us are out here searching for Home.
