The network confirmed this week that the couple, played by Brett Claywell as Kyle Lewis and Scott Evans as Oliver Fish , are being written off the show. The show has a history of bringing LGBT stories to the screen — earning two GLAAD awards in the process — as well as returning popular characters when they serve the ongoing story. These great characters remain in Llanview, and while there are no immediate plans to advance their story, the door is always open for their return. In January, the One Life to Live characters engaged in an onscreen love scene in the first-ever gay sex scene on daytime television. LGBTQ representation on television is up this year, a report found. But it could be higher, and more diverse.
One Life to Live heavily focuses on the members and relationships of the Lord family. Actress Erika Slezak began portraying the series' central protagonist Victoria "Viki" Lord in March [3] and played the character continuously for the rest of the show's run on ABC Daytime , winning a record six Daytime Emmy Awards for the role. Though Nixon's concept for the new series was "built along the classic soap formula of a rich family and a poor family," she was "tired of the restraints imposed by the WASPy , noncontroversial nature of daytime drama. The initial main titles of the series featured the image of a roaring fireplace, a visual representation of the originally proposed title — Between Heaven and Hell — ultimately changed to One Life to Live to avoid controversy. The show was originally a half-hour serial until it was expanded to 45 minutes on July 23, , and to one hour on January 16, From the debut episode, One Life to Live centered on fictional character Victoria "Viki" Lord originated by Gillian Spencer , portrayed by six-time Emmy winner Erika Slezak for longer than any other One Life to Live series actor, from March through the series finale January 13, , [3] as well as the web revival.

Claywell talked to EW about the loss of his character and why he thinks ratings had something to do with it. The story broke the last day I was on set. It happened very abruptly. I could see the writing on the wall, but it was very abrupt how it happened.
