After two attempts to beat the world record for the most number of redheads in the one place the organisers have decided to make some changes for Event co-ordinator Rachael Brooking said the record attempt would not be part of the event in its third year. She said the target of had proven too big a target for the event which she said would now have a new name and some different activities. In the first year about redheads were counted but with the crowd numbers clearly below the target in a count wasn't held. The event will include the crowning of a festival king and queen chosen from people at the event. Mrs Brooking said it was a pity the weekend's snow, which she joked would suit redheads, would not be repeated when the event was held on October 5.

Red hair or ginger hair occurs naturally in one to two percent of the human population , appearing with greater frequency two to six percent among people of Northern or Northwestern European ancestry and lesser frequency in other populations. It is most common in individuals homozygous for a recessive allele on chromosome 16 that produces an altered version of the MC1R protein. Red hair varies in hue from a deep burgundy or bright copper , or auburn , to burnt orange or red-orange to strawberry blond. Characterized by high levels of the reddish pigment pheomelanin and relatively low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin , it is associated with fair skin color , lighter eye color , freckles , and sensitivity to ultraviolet light.

On his Facebook page, he lists his interests as cycling and soccer, but he definitely has a knack for photographing natural redheads. He's traveled across the country photographing exactly gingers. Between and , Barraclough traveled to Orlando, Stuart and Vero Beach, responding to inquiries by people who wanted to be a part of what he now calls The Redhead Project. It's all about revealing how unique and striking redheads are, not just physically because of their hair, but also their personality. Barraclough says he didn't know any redheads personally.
